Nice, Michael! I liked your urban point of view, how you gave those guys a human voice. I liked that this was written in third person. Have you noticed Substack is a sea of me, me, me? The short break from this made me feel most hopeful. I liked your (unapologetic) masculine tone, but with a bit of tenderness poking through. I liked the unexpected reversal, the O’Henry-style twist-of-fate at the end. And the naming of streets, how they’re not spelled out😊 Nice work. You even got your DEI dig in! I had to smile, seeing your very own character brush it aside-- like he's showing you something.
