What Would Convince You Freebies to Go Paid?

Hey freebies! I hope you’re enjoying Sincere American Writing (S.A.W.). (I like ‘SAW’ because I like to think of myself ‘sawing’ through all the bullshit out there. And perhaps ‘sawing into’ Truth.)

Anyway. I’m trying to increase my paid subscriptions. I have 2,187 subscribers total with 64 paying as of now. (12-5-24.) I’d like to get above the 100 ceiling so I can have that hallowed orange check mark. (And receive more income for my hard work and passion.)

*(Due to a strange glitch which Substack claims to be fixing, my subscriber count currently says publicly I have only 30 subscribers. Hopefully this will be resolved soon.)

The question is: What would help bring you on board as a paid subscriber?

The tough reality—and I struggle with this myself—is that there are *so many* Substack newsletters out there, and we all only have so much time and money. I totally get that. The $5/month ads up, especially if you’re paying for five, ten, twenty-plus Substacks!

That aside, this is my appeal to you to *consider* going paid. What will you get? ALL my content, free and paywalled alike. If you’re a free subscriber you’re missing out on a lot of my writing. (Some of my best stuff.)

There are 2,123 of you free subscribers. If I could get even just 3-5% of you to convert to paid I’d be very happy.

Consider it. Out of the tens of thousands of stacks you could be paying to read, why not pay for one that values honesty, vulnerability, anti-ideology, art for art’s sake, a return to cultural and political sanity, a deep concern for truth and a consistency which borders on madness?

Either way, whether you take the plunge and go paid or not, I do appreciate your support. All subscribers count (and help) and I’m honored to have an audience. (And a growing one!)

If you know someone (friends, family, acquaintances, etc) who might like S.A.W., please do tell them about my newsletter! Share, re-stack, spread the word. I don’t expect to survive financially exclusively on Substack (though that would be fantastic!) and I do book editing and dog-walking to help make ends meet. I’d like to whittle down the editing/dog-walking and scale up the Substack paid subs. That’s the plan, anyway.
