Thank you for sharing Michael. It brought up so much about my own Dad and the healing that has taken place since I got sober and could actually feel what kind of man he was, as I was becoming the man I could be. ❤️

I don't know what it feels like to be living in your heart or what it was like for your Dad but as an outsider reading this story, it seems like you gave each other a gift by bridging the gap and filling in the space with love and gratitude. It is amazing the amount of healing the two of you did, some folks never get to this place in their lifetime.

Thank you, once again, for sharing this story. The power of your words makes each of us braver.

This goes too deep for me right now. But it’s close a testimony to saying what you feel to a dying loved one as I’ve read. And grateful for the honesty.

Powerful writing, Michael. This resonates: "I know I wasn’t the best father when you were young. I tried to be better than my own dad." This is such a pervasive theme for would-be fathers, that their models were bad, that their primary goal is to do better than they were done by. It sounds like your dad conveyed his love to you without strings attached, which is perhaps the best gift any parent can give.
