Fantastic Michael! I love the title and all the pieces you pull together here. It's amazing how we can take a full, big life and condense it into bite-sized parts that still convey the depth of life.

"And me, with Mom, our bond always complex and tinged with both deep love and corrosive acid": excellent.

Every time that I wasn't looking for love it showed up. When my now deceased husband's dad was dying he called me into the room and said that we needed to hurry and get married, because he wanted to hug me as his daughter in law instead of his son's fiancee. So the next day we went to the courthouse and got married. He died three days later.

I, too, met the love of my life within the last few years as my dad was dying and then passed away. He was sick for a long time and I think he really held on until he felt like all of us "kids" were "okay" and I think that this love for me helped him to let go when he was ready and I wish we had longer but I'm glad we had what we did.

Yes! I get it. It’s a powerful thing. Letting go of our fathers while falling in love. Life is wild. Thanks for reading and commenting!

Thanks. That was a fun read. I've only been to Manhattan on a short visit, but this really made me feel like I had lived there.

Cheers
