Nice! I can relate being a non-conformist writer myself. I enjoy your presence. I'm in San Francisco if you ever want to connect IRL. I think I may have found a typo "then, later, when my nine months of internship were almost over, unofficially << offered>>to represent me."

Gorgeous piece Michael. You describe the journey so well. Independence really is priceless.

You have just inspired me to write a post of my own. I spoke to a colleague of mine from my William Morris days who gets my emails, but told me she doesn’t understand what I’ve been doing or what I’m doing with Substack. She said she’d happily subscribe. I think I need an explainer post (like what you did here). Your writing speaks to me. I’m a happy paid subscriber.

A very liberating piece of writing - I believe for you for multiple and complex reasons that pull me in - but very critically, for creatives reading it. A roadmap filled with insight.

You help give me a very realistic idea of what it takes to make writing a livelihood. I have also worked all those jobs over the years and hopefully getting closer to a work life that caters to my free and rebellious spirit like yours. Thanks for all you share Michael.

Michael,

I'm fucking 81 and so dyslexic that I keep putting off my first post. I have a book, already self published, already on Amazon, nothing but 5 stars, how do I go about offering it to subscribers? Also a bunch of short stories and mostly done 'On the Road' stories that go back to my teens.

I admire your tenacity brother... Fuzz
