Sounds like you were doing the Wim Hof cold experience thing before it was a thing, what an experience. That story demonstrates one of the threads of life that bind us to our people no matter what came before or after.
Also I have a question...was that first cup of tea you had after you finally got the fire going the BEST cuppa you have had in your entire life? That's what I was thinking when I read it.

You are lucky to have gone backpacking with your father as a child and young man—so many stories to share with readers and perhaps generations to come in your life.
Many adult children lose touch or kinship with their parents once they leave home. For some parents, forming and maintaining healthy relationships with their children -- including viewing them as autonomous individuals and letting them go to find their way -- can be challenging.
Your writing is very moving and timely because a very close family member passed away from cancer a while ago.
Sticking it out one more night instead of packing in the tent says a lot about the bond you shared. And of men in general! I have a feeling a mother/daughter would've moved down the mountain and camped where there wasn't snow, and wasn't so cold. Or maybe that's just me. lol

Yes my heart felt this one!
Thank you for sharing.
Felt it all, loved it all❤️
An excellent and touching story. I'm so glad you were able to hang out with your dad.

You are fortunate to have palled around with your dad so often! - Hopping freight trains - 👍!
Simply ‘liking’ this beautiful piece is insufficient. It’s transporting. And leaves a reader grateful. Thank you.
